Who is Daniel J. Siegel?

Beside working as a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, Daniel J. Siegel is also the co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA. A distinguished psychiatrist who has received several accolades, he is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Siegel is the executive director of the Mindsight Institute, a think tank that focuses on the human capacity for discernment. They also investigate the human-environmental interface and the ways in which biological systems interact with one another. Dr. Siegel graduated from Harvard University’s medical school and finished his postgraduate training at the University of California. He worked as a National Institute of Mental Health Research Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Daniel J. Siegel has written for a professional readership for over a decade. His book, The Developing Mind: How Relationships and the Brain Interact to Shape Who We Are, is among the publications in the Handbook of Psychiatry (Guilford, 1999).
