Description

If you are talking to your patients about energy, exercise, diet, macronutrients, or metabolism; you need to have a solid understanding of biochemistry to turn your soundbites into success.

A solid understanding of biochemistry is a little known secret to success in clinical practice. With it, critically evaluating conditions and therapeutic measures becomes simple.

Stop Guessing and Start Knowing Today

Practitioners Need A Solid Understanding of Biochemistry to Be Successful.

Functional Medicine today tends to glamorize and sensationalize new pathways and ideas, often completely overlooking fundamental biochemical information. This is a huge disservice to patients and practitioners as biochemistry is paramount to the proper working of every cell in the body, including the very pathways and systems experts are talking about. Practitioners need the knowledge and ability to evaluate and treat their client’s biochemistry in order to fully help them.

Most Biochemistry Courses Fail to Deliver…
This Biochemistry Course is Different

Most biochemistry courses teach pathways in a silo – memorize the steps, enzymes, and metabolites for one pathway, and then move on to the next. This course is different. It doesn’t rely on memorization, but rather understanding concepts. It starts with giving you a big picture of all the pathways you’re going to learn, all together in an easy-to-understand way, no matter what your background. Then it goes in deep to each pathway so you can understand, and apply, the knowledge to your practice. It finishes where it started, with a detailed overview of all the pathways you learned, to further solidify the information for you.

“This is a must-do course for any nutritionist or exercise professional looking to understand fully the recommendations they are making, and the biochemical implications of the suggestions they make.”

Steve Grant | Nutritionist, London UK

In This 25 Hour Course, You Will Learn

  • How biochemical pathways interact with and connect to one another
  • Dozens of fundamental anabolic and catabolic pathways involving carbohydrates, proteins and fats
  • Important often-not-discussed pathways, their relevance to health, and clinical interventions to improve them
  • Where certain environmental pollutants and toxins negatively impact specific pathways
  • Individual pathways, in detail, explained in a way that you’ll always remember
  • An overview of advanced pathways and concepts including methylation, inflammation, oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction
  • Which vitamins and minerals are used in pathways, where, and what happens when they are deficient
  • And much, much more…

Not only will you have an incredible working knowledge of each biochemical pathway, you’ll actually understand how the pathways work to the point that you can have educated conversations with your colleagues about them (or know more than them!).

Stop Guessing and Start Knowing Today $597

After taking this course, you have the tools and foundation for CLINICAL SUCCESS. You’ll have:

  1. A strong working and conversational knowledge  of fundamental, as well as advanced, biochemical pathways
  2. The ability to view and evaluate your clients from a biochemical perspective
  3. An understanding of how nutrients interact with the body on a biochemical level
  4. Terminology to understand and evaluate a number of functional medicine lab tests

“The Metabolic Fitness Biochemistry Module presented by Dr. Bryan Walsh is a must for those who want to understand the complexity of Biochemistry and be able to explain and provide a scientific approach to optimal health with each and every client.”

Course Details

Module 1
Functional Cellular Biology

A broad but semi-detailed review on cells, how they work, what they need to function optimally, and how they can become dysfunction. If the human body is made up of a hundred trillion cells, we must first have an understanding of how cells work to help our clients feel better and look better.

Module 2
Carbohydrates, Proteins and Lipids: Structure, Function, Digestion and Overview of Biochemical Pathways

This week the very important topics of carbohydrate, protein and lipids will be discussed. This is critical to understand as moving forward when discussing different biochemical pathways, and their dysfunction, we understand these molecules, their structure, and how they get to the cells in the first place. The rest of the videos will discuss what happens to them once the enter a cell.

Module 3
Biochemistry Overview

This week, we will cover all of the major biochemical metabolic pathways and more importantly, how they integrate and work together. This will set the stage for talking about each pathway in more detail and helps people see the big picture of biochemistry.

Module 4
Carbohydrate Metabolism Part I

Topics in this module include glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and the electron transport chain. Important nutritional concepts will also be covered, including what micronutrients are necessary for proper function of these pathways.

Module 5
Carbohydrates Metabolism Part II

Topics in this module include gluconeogenesis, glycogenesis, glycogenolysis, the pentose phosphate pathway, as well as fructose and galactose metabolism. As always, important clinical and nutritional correlations will be made.

Module 6
Lipid Metabolism Part I

This module introduces the metabolism of lipids, including lipogenesis (fatty acid synthesis), lipolysis (fatty acid mobilization), beta-oxidation, and ketone synthesis and breakdown.

Module 7
Lipid Metabolism Part II

This module is a continuation of the previous module and will include topics such as cholesterol synthesis and degradation, triacylglycerol synthesis, phospholipid synthesis and degradation, and eicosanoid production.

Module 8
Amino Acid Metabolism

Now that we have fully discussed carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, we will shift to proteins and amino acids. This week we will specifically discuss amino acid synthesis, degradation and the urea cycle.

Module 9
Individual Amino Acids

In this module we cover many of the amino acids in detail. We will go into some depth of the individual amino acids, their function in the body as well as deficiency symptoms a client may present with if deficient in certain amino acids.

Module 10
Protein Synthesis

In this module, we focus on how proteins are synthesized in the body, including the role of ribose, purines, pyrimidines, RNA and DNA.

Module 11
Metabolic Integration

This module ends where we began, with a broad overview of the biochemical pathways and how they work together, including in a fed and fasted state. These are often favorite videos of students because it puts together everything learned in this course up to this point in an integrated, comprehensive manner.

Module 12
Neuron and Skeletal Muscle Metabolism

Now that we have covered all the major nutritional biochemical pathways, we will start to explore certain tissues to see how they differ biochemically.

Module 13
The Biochemistry of Inflammation and Reactive Oxygen Species

This video will cover the concepts of meta- and para-inflammation, as well as nuclear factor kappa beta, PPAR receptors, adiponectin, and cytokines.

Module 14
The Biochemistry of Methylation, Mitochondrial Dysfunction, and more . . .

Because methylation is talked about a lot in the field of nutrition lately, this video will discuss some of the basic concepts of methylation to give you a better understanding of the conversations taking place in the field today. We will also cover the concepts of mitochondrial dysfunction and endoplasmic reticulum stress as it relates to clients and patients.

Module 15
Putting It All Together

This module reviews all of the major pathways we covered throughout this course, putting them all back together again in a giant synthesis of the course.
