Increased concern is being expressed in the United States over an increase in the prevalence of opioid addiction. There is an increase in both illicit heroin use and opiate abuse for the treatment of pain. Practitioners in the field of mental health and behavioral health must quickly arm themselves with evidence-based therapeutic approaches in order to tackle this epidemic. The Neuroscience of Opioid Addiction course offered by the Hayden Center will illustrate the effectiveness of current approaches and their special application for reducing the number of opioid addicts.

Researchers in the field of neuroscience are working to understand not just the effects of medications on the brain, but also the impact of therapeutic therapies on the brain. Various therapies have been shown to cause some areas of the brain to rewire in response to the treatments. Dr. Center will demonstrate the efficacy of current procedures and the specific uses of these techniques by combining clinical skills and knowledge with the most recent scientific discoveries. Develop techniques that have been shown to reduce opioid cravings and improve decision-making abilities in opioid addicts for inclusion in your treatment arsenal of tools. You will be able to translate the most recent results into decisions on which therapy to use with your client and when you leave this course.

What you’ll study in the Neuroscience of Opioid Addiction course of Hayden Center is as follows:

  • Opiate and Opioid Abuse in the United States and Throughout the World
  • The Pain-Opioid Misuse Connection
  • What Neuroscience Has to Say About Opioid Abuse in Comparison to Other Substance Abuse
  • As An Adjunct To Treatment, Mindfulness
  • What We Learned: Which Approaches Work?
  • When Should They Be Used & How Should They Be Used?
  • Convert Cutting-Edge Research Into Effective Practice
